SARC and new Crisis Workers

The recently-built Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) is due to open on 30th January 2012. This will provide a "one-stop shop" for victims of rape or serious sexual assault as there is an on-site GUM Clinic and forensic examinations and policie interviews can be carried out in the centre. Currently, victims are required to attend various locations in Stoke on Trent and the process of interviews and forensic examinations takes considerably longer than it will at the SARC.

Savana were busy at the end of 2011 holding interviews in order to recruit a team of Out of Hours Crisis Workers who will accompany rape or serious sexual assault victims through the SARC, explaining the processes to them and helping them to feel more comfortable through what can be a difficult process.

Savana worked hard to put together a training programme for the new Crisis Workers and this was rolled out on 4th-6th January so that the workers are now ready to work with clients who come from the 30th January.
